Finding the Perfect Dress for a Black Tie Gala: My Experience with Norma Kamali
Hey there, fashion enthusiasts! Are you excited to join me on my journey as I prepare for a gala event with my husband? It's being held at the same venue where we tied the knot, and I'm thrilled to relive those special moments. But as a busy mom with multiple projects, finding the perfect dress was a must. I needed something comfortable yet stylish and didn't require too many alterations.
The first step was to figure out the venue's dress code, and since I was familiar with Crystal Plaza, I knew it was black-tie. Fun fact we got married at this beautiful venue and everyone there we consider to be family! I’ll tell you more about that another day.
Okay so next, I thought about how I was feeling - a little bloated due to slacking off on my diet and exercise routine. So, I went on a hunt and found the perfect dress - the Walter Fishtail Gown by Norma Kamali. It's a black ruched mesh overlay with a nude lining, a sweetheart neckline, and off-the-shoulder sleeves, which I'm sure will flatter my curves.
When the dress arrived, I couldn't be happier with how comfortable and glamorous it made me feel. To complement the look, I purchased a pair of long sheer gloves, but not wanting to commit to the expensive gloves, I opted for a similar yet more affordable pair on Amazon.
Now it was time to focus on hair and makeup. Styling my hair without using heat tools can be challenging, so I decided to go for a 90s-inspired updo, inspired by Pamela Anderson. To prevent frizz due to the rainy weather, I made sure my hair was dry before styling.
As for makeup, I chose a soft glam look with bold winged eyeliner and a bright red lip to complement my black dress. I also decided last minute to ditch the sheer long gloves.
To complete the look, my husband wore a Y2 black textured tux jacket with a satin lapel, a textured black tie, a white collar shirt, tuxedo pants, and black wingtip-laced shoes.
Remember, when selecting an outfit for a special occasion, don't forget to consider the venue, your mood, and your comfort level. You never know; trying out new brands or styles might lead to discovering your new favorite look. With a bit of research and planning, you can create a look that makes you feel confident and beautiful. As always I’ve included similar options below at different price points. Until next time! Xo
